Introducing Blue MedicareRx

Blue MedicareRx

A Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit drug plan
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas makes it easy for you to complement your Medicare health coverage with Blue MedicareRxSM — an extensive Medicare-approved, employer group sponsored prescription drug plan.  Blue MedicareRx delivers more than reliable benefits – it provides the flexibility, value and affordability you expect from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, one of the most trusted brands in health care.

Please select the above Plan Detail and Rx Information tabs to learn about our standard benefit plans, formulary (list of covered drugs) and network pharmacies. Following are general features of Blue MedicareRx.

Flexibility
Just show your Blue MedicareRx card at any one of our network 50,000 pharmacies nationwide. You’ll enjoy the convenience of one of the area’s largest pharmacy networks that includes major chains like Walgreens, Osco and Wal-Mart. Our network also includes most independent pharmacies in the state as well as long-term care and home-infusion pharmacies.

Value
You can even have your prescriptions delivered right to your door with our convenient mail-order service. Home delivery is a great alternative when you take important maintenance medications that require frequent trips to the pharmacy. You can purchase your prescriptions every 90 days instead of monthly. When you start to run low on your medication, you can simply order refills by phone or online. If you are currently using a mail order facility through your employer group plan, you will be able to continue using the same mail order facility without getting a new prescription, provided that prescription drug is included in the Medicare Part D formulary.

Affordability
Blue MedicareRx also features an extensive formulary. This means that Blue MedicareRx provides some level of coverage for most prescription drugs. Blue MedicareRx members enjoy reduced drug costs on maintenance drugs when they order a 90-day supply from an in-network retail preferred pharmacy or our mail order pharmacy.

Enroll
Don’t delay. Contact your employer group health plan administrator for your specific open enrollment dates and deadlines. If you enroll in a Medicare-approved prescription drug plan after the initial enrollment period, you may face a government-imposed late enrollment penalty which would result in a higher monthly premium. If you miss the enrollment deadline, under most circumstances you will have to wait until the next enrollment period and will not be able to get coverage until January 2007.

Remember, acceptance is guaranteed as long as you meet the eligibility requirements detailed in the enclosed Summary of Benefits (PDF).
